After two seasons of reckoning with her own financial identity, Gaby’s ready to give the American financial system an identity crisis. Every week, Gaby brings a queer, feminist, unabashedly radical point of view to conversations with celebrities, journalists, politicians, authors, activists, and fellow deadbeats. C all me odd, but when I feel lonely I often distract myself by grabbing my headphones, turning on a podcast, and going for a walk. It gets me out of the house and increases my chances at a meet-cute with a Clintonville yuppie out walking their dog. But, the show amounts to more than just millennials feeling sorry for themselves, because it looks at other aspects of modern dating, such as IUDs Hacking the Uterus 2. Oh, but keep an ear out for Randy, the vilest radio villain in history.
I cannot stand him, even though I think I understand what Andrea is doing by having him on her show. I think it also helped that I went through a rough patch in my dating life right around when the episode was released, so I could commiserate. It is not the meet-cute she imagined. Do you remember your first love? The one when you were young and felt like you finally knew what it felt like to be accepted by someone and the world was open to explore and nothing could go wrong?
Do you remember when it went wrong? Have you ever gone back and talked to that person about it, years and years later?

You may have noticed my absence the last few weeks on the blog, which is not without great reason I promise you! I actually made a strategic decision to put the majority of my time and efforts into working on something God significantly put on my heart. Truth be told, God put this on my heart for some time but only recently did I truly feel the boldness to step into this calling within the last 2 months. Over the course of the last few years, I have developed a particular passion on the topic of dating in the Christian world.
This has translate to multiple blog posts on my personal experiences in dating, love, heartbreak, and relationships… oh me oh my! As I started to navigate this topic more and more, I started to realize just how great it would be to have a central place for both men AND women to come together to hear more insight on this ever ambiguous topic. When it comes down to it, dating is a topic that many people need advice and input on, but are not always apt to know exactly where to get it!
While there are resources spread out across the years, there are not many centralized areas where Christians can access dating advice, help, and guidance easily and in a fashion that is accessible. Not going to lie to you friends, there is not a TON out there that tells you about how to start a podcast. Which just means it has been quite the journey navigating this. Though difficult, it has been ohhh so exciting. Okay that about covers it for today… you lovely amazing people!!!
Bear with me as we embark on this journey, k? Your email address will not be published.

More recently, a plethora of market-minded dating books are coaching singles on how to seal a romantic deal, and dating apps, which have rapidly become the mode du jour for single people to meet each other, make sex and romance even more like shopping. The idea that a population of single people can be analyzed like a market might be useful to some extent to sociologists or economists, but the widespread adoption of it by single people themselves can result in a warped outlook on love.
M oira Weigel , the author of Labor of Love: The Invention of Dating , argues that dating as we know it—single people going out together to restaurants, bars, movies, and other commercial or semicommercial spaces—came about in the late 19th century. What dating does is it takes that process out of the home, out of supervised and mostly noncommercial spaces, to movie theaters and dance halls. The application of the supply-and-demand concept, Weigel said, may have come into the picture in the late 19th century, when American cities were exploding in population.
Read: The rise of dating-app fatigue. Actual romantic chemistry is volatile and hard to predict; it can crackle between two people with nothing in common and fail to materialize in what looks on paper like a perfect match. The fact that human-to-human matches are less predictable than consumer-to-good matches is just one problem with the market metaphor; another is that dating is not a one-time transaction.
This makes supply and demand a bit harder to parse. Given that marriage is much more commonly understood to mean a relationship involving one-to-one exclusivity and permanence, the idea of a marketplace or economy maps much more cleanly onto matrimony than dating.
